There are four basic steps for the production of liquid nitrogen (LN2) from the air:
- Compress the air from the room.
- Separate the nitrogen from the air.
- Liquify the nitrogen gas.
- Transfer the liquid nitrogen to a storage dewar, ready for on-demand use.
Compress the air from the room: Air is extracted through a particle filter, and then compressed at a moderate pressure. The air is then put through a drying process to remove.
Separate the nitrogen from the air: The compressed and dried air is fed into a series of purification steps to remove carbon dioxide and other impurities, leaving just the nitrogen portion (78%).
Liquefy the nitrogen gas: The clean and dry nitrogen gas is put through MMR Technologies’ patented refrigeration process, producing in a relatively short period of time LN2 for usage.
Transfer the liquid to a storage dewar, ready for on-demand use: As liquid nitrogen is produced, it is transferred to an internal storage dewar or tank. Transfer of liquid nitrogen to either a small thermos or to the larger Autotransfer storage tank occurs through the pressurization of the nitrogen in the liquefier, forcing it through a transfer siphon to the appropriate container.
